Hello,
Trying to work out the cage for my Jem. In the blue book it mentions reinforced plates to support the feet of the cage. These are to be welded to the shell.....What Options have I got , don’t want to turn up and fail scrutineering.
Hopefully someone has had a cage fitted that has passed scrutineering?
All best
Ian

Tim in New Zealand races a Jem, he should be able to advise, Pete is in the middle of his build so another option there.

I have always done the following with no issues from a range of MSA scrutineers.

Use 3mm thick plates under the normal roll cage feet, these are usually at least 2x the area recommended by the MSA blue book.  These are either stuck to the floor using filler or stuck using filler and then bonded over with two layers of glass.  Underneath the car there are plates the same size as the roll cage feet, again 3mm thick.  I use button head bolts bush from the outside in with a washer and then unlock nuts on the inside.  Can try to put some photos us of what I have done on the jem, will take a while cos I really struggle to make them small enough.

Regards

Pete

Thanks Pete,
That makes sense. Don’t worry about images.
Hope to see you out on the hills soon.

After a long delay. Finally have a fully welded cage in the Jem. Made the shell a lot stronger, stiffer.
If someone can help , I will try to upload some images  of progress.
