Progress update on my MK6 build. Car inverted and supported on axle stands to fit fuel tank, rear subframe with running gear, brake / fuel lines and battery cables. Also fitted steering rack and test fit of front subframe. Headlining was easier to do while inverted as well. Wiring Loom labelled up. Went through the IVA manual again. Most difficult job so far was rear subframe alignment and had to fit elbow grease nipples on the radius arms for access for future greasing. A third of the way through my task list so expect the build will be nearer 6 months rather than my predicted 4 months. Satisfying and enjoying doing the build again almost 40 years on from my MK4 build !

Graham,
Progress has been a bit slower than planned as I seem to have less time now that lockdown is easing, but I still hope to get to IVA in a couple of months or so.
My main work over the last 3 months has been rebuilding my 1098cc engine. I was able to run the engine secured in the front subframe with a temporary test rig of fuel can, fuel pump, exhaust and battery. So I am ready to lift the car over the fully built up front subframe, running gear and engine. I have the wiring loom in and Elm Dashboard ready to fit. Still got wipers, heater, headlights, steering column, seat belts, seats, doors and all the glass to fit yet !.
I know it is a bit sad but I have listed all the jobs completed and left to do. Progress is 379 completed and 117 to get the finish ! I will get some more pics posted soon.

I thought I should bring my build log up to date.
After completing a 4 year project from collecting the shell out of the moulds at Marcos Cars in October 2020 I finally achieved a successful IVA test pass in October 2024. Registered to use on the road in December 2024.
Now to start enjoy driving it!
I still have work to do including an engine upgrade, removing the seams and fitting carpets & underlay. |
