As autumn draws in down under we decided to have a run out at an event outside the Vic hillclimb championship last Sunday.
After a few weeks of not much rain the big man upstairs decided it was payback time and Sundays forecast was 'wet'. As with other RR multiclub we were split off in the 1000cc- -1300cc class which meant only 3 cars were in our class meaning we'd at least a guarantee of a medal for getting wet and muddy. We got 5 runs in total and from the first run it was obvious we had our work cut out as a local stripped out MG Midget benefited from rear wheel drive in the wet take off which was saturated. we were 3 seconds back which is a lot at Rob Roy and with the rain not really letting up but easing at times and us getting a bit braver and pushing a bit harder each run we slowly closed the gap down to a deficit of 0.6 after run 4 with a 36.7 sec time so threw caution to the wind for run 5 and with a bit of slipping and sliding through the chicane at the top of the hill managed a 35.95 to better the midgets best of 36.06 to win the class. The pitcrew was happy with the result and the car looked like it had been autograssing by the end of the day so had a well deserved wash and arch /underside hose off yesterday and is now dry and ready for a check over this weekend before the next Vic round at Bryant park on 21st April - a place we don't go too well at and have to run in the open/closed sportscars upto 2 litre class but we'll give it 100% anyway. Wish us luck. Grid Filler Racing |
