NEWS FOR ALL 6FT + MINI MARCOS OWNERS !!

I am 6ft 4 ins tall and on purchasing my Mk III, I found that even with no seat in it I was unable to sit upright in the car, because my head touched the roof. So, allowing approximately 2 in for the runners and seat I had two options - They were:-

  1. Have a flat machined on the top of my head
  2. Mount the seat at an angle.

The first of these options didn't really appeal to me, (but my wife quite liked the idea), so I set about designing a suitable frame. Whilst prattling around with a piece of paper and crayons (nothing sharp being allowed in our house) it was brought to my attention that I was not the only person who would be driving the car! Jan, my wife, being a 5ft 1½in model for garden gnomes had just passed her driving test. After much thinking and sleeping on it, (and even enquiring locally for a head machinist) a solution was found - It simply consisted of 1" x 1" angle frames mounted under the seat but on top of the runners. The optimum angle for these frames being found as follows:-

After mounting the pedal assembly in the chassis, place the seat in approx-imately the correct position. After ensuring that no-one is looking climb in and slide back until you can reach the pedal assembly comfortably then lean back (but not too far!) until, at last, your head doesn't touch the roof. Then measure the distance between the front of the seat squab and the floor. This cures the first problem, namely how to drive a Mini Marcos without a flat head, but it does not satisfy the 5ft 1½in lady with the fishing rod.

This was achieved by mounting runners on the bottom of the frame at fulk extension backwards for me and full extension forwards for the wife enabling her to reach the pedal and wheel without obscuring her vision.
