About the Club

Since its creation in 1977 the club has led a fairly chequered career, at one time operating as the Mini Sportscar Club and subsequently as part of the Marcos Owners Club. However, since the spring of 1988 when it was relaunched as a separate club, it has gone from strength to strength. Following the relaunch of the Mini Marcos in 1991, its Silver Jubilee year, the Club saw its worldwide membership rise to over 400 in March 1998.

The aim of the club is to promote the Mini Marcos, Mini Jem and Kingfisher marques by providing an opportunity for owners to share ideas, seek answers to problems and generally get the most out of owning the cars. Special advisers have been appointed for Mini Jem and Kingfisher Sprint.

The Club welcomes owners of other Mini-based cars for which there are no recognised owners clubs.

It is a club run by enthusiasts for the benefit of other enthusiasts, so we share a common interest.

Shows and Events

The Club is usually represented at major kit car shows and selected classic car and Mini events throughout the UK. There are plenty of opportunities to chat to other members, buy and sell parts and get advice on any aspect of car ownership.

The Club's Annual General Meeting now takes place during the National Kit Car Show at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire in May.

We also arrange overseas trips and regularly atttend the International Mini Meetings. Several trips to Le Mans were run in the 1990s and the Club took part in the first Swedish International Marcos Rally in 1992. Since 2008 we have attended the biannual Le Mans Classic meeting where Mini Marcoses regularly take part. This is a popular rendez-vous for our members in France.

In 2000 the club organised the "trip of a lifetime" to the International Mini Meeting in Finnish Lapland and on to Nordkapp, the most northerly point in Western Europe.

From time to time the Club has joined forces with other UK Marcos clubs to hold combined events.

Keeping You Informed

The Club publishes a magazine four times a year containing a range of articles on all aspects of owning the cars: letters, technical tips, show reports, competitions, forthcoming events and historical items. It also carries advertisements for cars and parts for sale or wanted. The content varies from one issue to the next and is of course dependent on members sending articles and photographs to the Editor.

For members on the internet we have this web site including the Mini Marcos Forum which has boards for all club cars and Mini specials.

Spares and Regalia

The Club holds a stock of spares and accessories ranging from laminated windscreens and perspex headlamp covers to side stripes and other graphics. We supply a heated rear window for the Mini Marcos - an item that was never available from the Marcos factory!

A range of items bearing the Club and car motifs is available.

The Club is authorised to use the Mini Marcos logo and stocks bonnet badges, key rings, lapel badges, wheel centre cap badges and panel badges which can be used for steering wheel centres, gear knobs, etc. A recent addition is door sill trims for Mini Marcos and Mini Jem cars.

Publications

Magazine binders and back numbers are available from the club, along with books concerned with Marcos cars.

Technical Advice

With Regional Organisers in many parts of the UK, technical advice is never more than a phone call away. These people are enthusiasts and owners who have usually built or renovated their own cars and understand the sorts of problems you are likely to face. In addition, the Club has appointed two Technical Advisers who can be consulted on more difficult problems, and a specialist adviser for GRP (fibreglass) problems.

Specialist advisers are also available for Mini Jem, Kingfisher Sprint and other Mini specials.

Technical articles regularly appear in the Club Magazine, and the best of these going back some seventeen years have been collated into a loose-leaf Technical Manual. The manual is supplied in a hard back ring binder and is currently being updated.

Sport

Many members take part in motor sport including racing, sprints and hill climbs. The earliest cars can now compete in Historic Sports Car events.

Buying and Selling

Many people join the club in order to find cars, and a few to sell them. There is usually a good selection of cars in the quarterly magazine ranging from concours examples to unfinished kits and cars suitable for restoration. The Club Secretary maintains the list of cars for sale and is able to put buyers and sellers in touch between editions of the magazine.

Non-members may advertise cars for sale for a small fee. The use of the club to obtain cars to resell for profit is strongly discouraged. It is the club's policy that cars for sale are first advertised to members (including via the club magazine) before details are passed to non-members.

Discounts

Members are offered discounts by three of the UK's leading Mini parts dealers, who also provide international mail order services.

Members are entitled to a discount of 15% on RAC rescue and recovery services. When purchasing European travel insurance the excess for cars over ten years old is waived.

Membership Information

Club membership runs from 1st April to 31st March, but to ensure that members joining part way through the year do not get short measure, they receive all of the issues of the magazine for that year. The membership subscription is £15.00 per year, which can be paid by standing order if you have a UK bank or building society current account. There is no separate joining fee.

Overseas applicants may pay by Sterling cheque or bank transfer. Our bank details may be found on the standing order form. Sending cash is entirely at your own risk but is usually the cheapest method. We will accept foreign banknotes at the normal exchange rate, rounded up to the next banknote value.

You can also pay your subscription by PayPal using your credit or debit card or directly from your own PayPal account. We will charge you £1 extra to cover our costs, so the total charge is £16.00 (GBP 16.00) for one year. You pay your credit card company or bank in your local currency plus any charges they make. However these costs are likely to be much less than other forms of international money transfer.
