almost 25 years after I bought it and 12 years after it was built for competition (10 of those it being sat idle in the UK under a tarp).....my car now has some competition history!!. Managed to drive it 128Km Saturday evening with a my friends Marcos 1500GT to Geelong before waking early Sunday and being scrutineered. 4 x runs down the 1/4 mile sprint (bouncing off the rev limiter at 7,000rpm) and then packed the car up Sunday evening and drove it another 128km home again. Didn't miss a beat. A bit hot and sweaty when I got home but finally an event under our belt. The class was mini bodied and mini powered vehicles so up against full race historic minis and hillclimb car with 140bhp as well as a modern 2002 Mini Cooper S and my work colleagues tuned Toyota powered and turbo'd Mini packing 268 bhp and launch control......needless to say we didn't challenge the front (13.3 sec @ 181kph terminal speed of the 268bhp beast) but did manage to get in front of two historic mini's and 2 others ended up kaput after run 1 and run 2 so have to be happy really with my 17.5 second run and getting home drama free!. In Marcos 60th year we also managed to have 3 cars line up to compete with Steve Schmidts mighty quick Mk3 (a Geelong regular) posting a 15.7 time and Andy Derricks wooden chassis 1500GT posting a 17.2 second time in his class to grab 4th. |
