Hi,
Just joined the club and indeed the forum! Yesterday myself and my other 2 colleagues purchased 7004 off Ebay. It has been sat for 30 years unloved and spent many years outside..... So the condition is poor to say the least! Anyway, it is now back at the workshops and we plan on having a proper look over the next week or so. However from the first glance it appears to have been rallied in period (think Motoring news road rally championships) having a full roll cage, period bucket seats, additional gauges/switches, Autolec cut off switch, navigator map lights etc etc. It also has full guarding underneath. Someone must know about it's rallying history, i'm sure not many were used in that way. Previous owners were Lincoln way, then Chesterfield.
It will be a good 5 year plan........!!
Anyway, a few pics. We all like pics
Lots to do!
If anyone knows anything about this car please let me know
Cheers,
Tom |

Looks like it was rallied at some point as the chequer plate seems excessive for a track car. I spotted diy neg camber bottom arms to. If you need it I've got some moulds that may help repair the front. Mike |

That is a lot of work, the subframes are obviously scrap but take a good look at the metal parts that are embedded in the fibreglass such as the bulkhead cross member that incorporates the shock mounts and metal inserts for the rear sub frame mounts. These are very prone to rusting out. It is fixable though.
Also, those seats are original Marcos Speedex seats and were available from Marcos as extras, mine (7050) had them.....they were VERY unsupportive though and flexed really badly. |

I think that I must have been 'Chesterfield' owner in the late 70s / early 80s I already had a mk4 car that I built in 77/78 (ARA363T) and wanted something that I could do road rallies in. When I bought the car it was in a real mess and required lots of work but it had been prepared for rallying or grass track and came with 1275 cooper S running gear. This engine caused loads of trouble and proved very expensive to repair so I swapped it for a 998 and competed in the sub 1000cc class. It was not particularly competitive due to the weight (all that chequer plate and the roll cage). I did make a long aluminium sump guard for it as well. I did a number of road rallies before I had to sell the car to raise money to build a bungalow in the early 80s. I kept the Mk4 car for a bit longer as my everyday car. I'm afraid I can't remember too much else about the car but let me know if I can be of more help. In my retirement I am heavily involved in building unfinished kits - A Midas convertible, Quantum saloon, GTM Rossa K4, Robin Hood 7 replica and more recently a 2CV engined Pembleton trike. Oh happy days. I have a few more photos if I can work out how to post them! John

Hi John, Would you happen to have any photos of 8209 (ARA 363T)? I knew of its existence but have no details. Richard |
